During the Second World War, the Ilyushin Il-2 Shturmovik was the main attack aircraft of the Russian army, and also the most produced military aircraft in the history of aviation, with 36,000 examples produced by the end of the war. The aircraft had integrated armour to protect vital points such as the cockpit, engine, and fuel tank. The single-seat variant of the Il-2 was introduced in March 1941, but after heavy losses, was replaced by the improved two-seat version with a rear gunner. At the end of 1943, a newer version was introduced with the outer wing panels swept back at an angle of 15 degrees to improve the centre of gravity. This kit faithfully recreates the IL-2m3 as seen over Berlin in 1945 in 1/48 scale with seven finishing options.
