The Lockheed Corporation developed the EC-121 Warning Star in the late '40s with its first flight in 1949 and introduction into service in 1954. The Warning Start served as a radar surveillance aircraft until it was retired by the USAF in 1978 and the USN in 1982. Over 232 airframes were built during its almost 3 decades of service, mostly in the Vietnam War
