An icon of the Cold War, the American M113 is perhaps the definitive armoured personnel carrier (APC). The M113A1 featured a new powerplant, compared to the initial version; the original petrol engine was replaced by one running on diesel, which improved the vehicle's fuel economy, as well as reducing risk from fire.

The M113 was originally designed to ferry troops around whilst protecting them from small arms fire and shrapnel (a 'battle taxi'); during the Vietnam War, the design was found to need a bit of an upgrade for the local conditions (the ARVN tended to use the M113 as more of an MICV/light tank!), including enhanced firepower and better protection for the gunners. From this need, the ACAV was born: the main 12.7 mm HMG was given an open-top turret to protect the user, as well as a frontal gun shield; additionally, a pair of shielded M60s were mounted towards the rear.

Andy's latest kit can be built in one of two ways, as you prefer: either as the definitive M113A1, or the ACAV. Hatches can be built open or closed, and there's a wealth of interior detail to work with. As a finishing touch, a figure to operate the .50 cal is also included.
