The Torana A9X fulfilled Holden’s dreams by winning the Bathurst 1000 in both 1978 and 1979, driven by the legendary duo Peter Brock and Jim Richards. Although the A9X had less power than the larger Ford Falcon, its lighter weight and agility on the track gave it a significant advantage.

In the 1979 Bathurst Top 10 Shootout, Brock set a remarkable lap time of 2:20.5, almost two seconds faster than second-place Morris. Despite controversial circumstances, Moffat also competed, securing the fourth-fastest time.

Race day started with a slippery track due to overnight rain, which played into Brock’s hands. By the end of the first lap, he was already three seconds ahead of the competition. The outright pace of the Brock/Richards Torana was unstoppable, further amplified by mechanical troubles plaguing their rivals. They went on to win the race by an incredible six laps, with Holden dominating the event by securing the top eight positions.

The 1979 Bathurst was the final race for both the Torana A9X and XC Falcon at the event. Brock and Richards secured their second consecutive Bathurst win, setting a new margin of victory by six laps, and Brock set a final lap record of 2:21.1. This victory marked Brock’s fourth and Richards' second Bathurst win, tying Brock with racing legends Harry Firth, Bob Jane, and Allan Moffat.

The 1979 Bathurst win solidified the Torana A9X's place in Australian motorsport history, contributing to the enduring legacy of Peter Brock and the Holden Dealer Team.

This model car is perfect for all Holden Torana, Bathurst, Peter Brock and 1:24 Scale collectors alike.
