The F-111 is an all-weather multi-purpose aircraft designed and manufactured by General Electric Company. This project was developed by General Electric Company in the 1960s in response to the carrier-based long-range interception proposed by the U.S. Navy and the low-altitude penetration attack aircraft proposed by the U.S. Air Force, but in the subsequent development process, the Navy's carrier-based program aborted, and the F-111 eventually evolved into a land-based bomber/attack aircraft. The aircraft is a two-seat, twin-engine, variable-sweep wing all-metal semi-monocoque structure. The first flight took place in December 1964, and the mass-produced version entered military service on July 18, 1967. A total of 563 F-111s were produced.
The FB-111 is a strategic bombing variant of the F-111, with a larger built-in fuel tank, but it does not actually have intercontinental range, and the strategic mission is mainly accomplished by its mounted weapons.
