Development of the LWS amphibious trailer began in 1936, the first seven were completed in July 1940, and an additional 14 were completed in March 1941. It was designed and built by Rheinmetall-Borsig, but the cargo compartment was too small, lacking storage space and unloading access. In order to solve this problem, a 10-ton and 20-ton amphibious trailer was specially manufactured. The car is operated by 3-5 people and can take 20 occupants. The lack of armour protection made the vehicle inconvenient to use in combat. The LWS has been used in the Soviet Union and North Africa.
