The F8F Bearcat was the last piston engined "cat" fighter produced by the famous Grumman "Ironworks". The aircraft succeeded in combining the agility of the zero with the massive power of the F4U Corsair in a tiny airframe. The result was a fighter with outstanding speed and climb performance which saw action in a number of conflicts outside of WWII. The Air Forces of Vietnam and Thailand were equipped with a number of F8F-1B's in the late '50s and early 60's, where they were used in counter-insurgency operations.
