The LMS Princess Royal Class were designed by William Stanier having previously worked alongside Charles Collett for the GWR at Swindon. As a result of Stanier’s connections to the GWR the Princess Royal Class shared a lot of characteristics with the GWR’s King Class locomotives.
No. 6205 ‘Princess Victoria’ was built in July 1935 and remained in service until November 1961. In May 1938 the locomotive was fitted with modified valve gear with the outside gear driving the inside valves via rocking levers. Although the fitting of this new valve gear was initially intended as a trial, the new arrangement was not removed due to the onset of the Second World War. The locomotive was finally withdrawn at the end of 1961.
This finely detailed model represents No. 6205 ‘Princess Victoria’ in pre-1938 condition.
