The production of the Italian tanks of the Second World War was concentrated on the “M” version. The M-13/40 was the most famous and widespread tank of the Royal Army. It was characterized by the protection made with the characteristic "nailing" and was equipped with a 47 mm gun. Although superior to the Italian light tanks of the "L" series, relegated to reconnaissance tasks, it soon became obsolete during the war. The self-propelled M-40 was also built on its hull. Equipped with a 75 mm howitzer installed in the casemate, it was definitely feared by enemy armoured vehicles. The best results were obtained from the combined use of the M-13/40 flanked by the self-propelled vehicles that were able to compensate for the limited firepower of the tank.
