The Ford Escort RS1800 Mk.II was active in the world motorsport scene from the 1970s to the 1980s. The first model, known as the Mk.I, appeared in 1967, and actively participated in various motorsports such as rallies and touring car races. The second-generation model, the Mk.II, was introduced in 1975. It features a more angular body design than the first generation, and has a wide line-up of engines and body types. The high-performance version is the RS1800, which is equipped with a BDA made by Cosworth. The in-line four-cylinder engine had a displacement of 1800ccm, and was equipped with a twin-cam 16-valve head. In the motorsports scene, each tuner is also active in circuit racing; German's Zakspeed was one of the teams that ran the Escort.
This model kit from Italeri uses new parts to reproduce the Gr.2 specification of this car, active in touring car races and fielded by the German tuner Zakspeed. This full-detail kit features an over fender to realistically model the sharp body style with an edgy finish. Under the hood, Cosworth's in-line four-cylinder BDA unit is reproduced in high detail, including its accessories. The interior features roll bars, and the bucket seats and instrument panels contribute to the spartan finish. Decals are included for sponsor marks, bibs, and other markings.
