The BMW M3 E30 participated in the Group A touring car race in 1987 as a flagship machine. Based on the BMW 3 Series, the M3 was equipped with an inline 4 cylinder engine that had been tuned up to 300 horsepower with blister fender. The BMW M3 E30 had also participated in Japanese race since 1987. In the 1990 season, there were 9 M3 E30s entered the race from 7 teams. The fierce battles between M3s and excellent performance perfectly fascinated the spectators.
