At the beginning of the Burmese battlefield in the late World War II , the armoured forces of the Republic of China Army mostly used American armoured vehicles. Until the late 1980s, although the main U.S. military aid tank M-48 was equipped with upgrades, it could no longer meet the needs of future combat power.
In 1984, the Army Tank Development Centre cooperated with General Dynamics to develop the second-generation main tank, named CM-11 Brave Tiger.
CM-11, is the first type of tank developed by the Republic of China Army, also known as M-48H H stands for Hybrid (Hybrid). It uses an American-made M-60A3 tank with the existing M-48 turret, and upgrades the main gun and A special-edition vehicle for the fire control system. A total of 450 vehicles were produced. It has been in service since the 1990s and is the main battle vehicle of Taiwan's first line.
The main difference from the M-48/M-60 Patton series except for the combination of the turret and the chassis on the exterior, the main gun has been upgraded to the American M-68A1 105mm, with the American M1A1 gun shooting control system of the same level, and thermal imaging Cameras, laser rangefinders, etc. have greatly improved the ability to observe and aim, and the performance surpasses M-60A3.
In order to improve the protection against anti-tank weapons , in the 2000s, the Zhongshan Academy of Sciences referred to the French design and developed a reactive armour block.
This equipment is not mass-produced , only a few vehicles are equipped..
