At the beginning of the battlefield in the latter part of the Second World War, the Armed Forces of the Republic of China Army used American armoured vehicles. Until the end of the 1980s, the US military aid M-48, although equipped with upgrades, was unable to cope with the demand for future combat power.
In 1984, the Army Chariot Development Centre teamed up with General Dynamics to develop the second-generation main chariot, called the CM-11 Warrior.
The CM-11 is the first type of tank developed by the Republic of China Army. It is also called the M-48H H for Hybrid. It is equipped with the M-60A3 chassis and the existing M-48 turret, and upgrades the main gun and the special version of the vehicle for the control system. A total of 450 vehicles were produced. Since the 1990s, it has been serving as the main battle vehicle in Taiwan.
In addition to the combination of the turret and the chassis of the M-48/M-60 Patton, the main gun was upgraded to the M-68A1 105mm, with the American M1A1 gun fire control system, thermal imaging. Instrument, laser range finder, etc. greatly enhance the viewing ability, performance beyond the M-60A3.
The turret on the turret uses the URDAN long tower built by Israel and is equipped with a five-zero air-to-air machine gun. The hand-side is equipped with a semi-circular self-defence general-purpose machine gun. Two hoods are added in front of the turret, and atmospheric data sensing is added at the rear.
In order to improve the protection of anti-tank weapons, in the 2000s, the Zhongshan Institute of Science and Technology designed the French armour with reference to the French design.
