A Versatile Design
The M8 "Greyhound" was an important cog in the WWII U.S. military machine, a speedy light armoured car with an open top turret and 37mm gun that could fire a range of different rounds. Some vehicles also had an extra ring mount. Possessing a rear mounted 110hp gasoline engine and six-wheel drive, this mobile car could reach speeds of up to 88.5km/h. 8,500 were produced between March 1943 and April 1944, and most were active in mechanized units in the European theatre, some supplied to the Free French Forces and other Allied countries such as Great Britain, as well as other countries after the cessation of hostilities.
