The Grumman F8F Bearcat was designed as a point defence interceptor to protect US aircraft carriers from kamikaze attacks. Emphasizing climb rate, the Grumman designers used lessons learned from the earlier F4F Wildcat and from captured Fw 190s. Entering service too late to see combat in WWII, the Bearcat would be used by the French in Indochina and would become a favourite air racer. This beautiful 1/32 scale kit from Trumpeter represents the .50 caliber machine gun-armed F8F-1.
