The FLAK 41 50mm anti-aircraft gun was designed as a key air defence to make up for the lack of shooting height of the 37mm anti-aircraft gun. At that time, the 75mm and above anti-aircraft guns were relatively heavy and could not be manoeuvred at any time. The research and development of the artillery began slowly in 1936. In 1940, the contract was awarded to Rheinmetall-Borsig. The artillery developed two models for the protection of important industrial facilities. A total of about 60 FLAK 41 50mm anti-aircraft guns were produced, starting in 1941, and some continued to be used until 1945
