The 72B3 is the third generation of the Russian T-72 family. The T-72B3 was designed as an economical replacement for the T-90A main battle tank until the Russian Armed Forces acquired a new generation tank, the T-14 "Almata". It is a simple upgrade of the T-72B tank, raising some parameters to the T-90A level.
In 2016, the tank was upgraded to the T-72B3M version. The new version includes a new V-92C2F engine with 1,130 horsepower. "Sosna-U" sight, new dynamic defence system "Relic", new 6P50 "Kord" anti-aircraft machine gun, improved autoloader, can use "Lead-1" and "Lead-2" shells .
The overall side of the 4S24 has a bevelled edge. The early IIRC can resist the penetration depth of armour-piercing shells about 400-500 mm, and the 4S24 is increased to about 600-800 mm. 4S24 is more resistant to HMG and less susceptible to chain effects.
