The cruiser USS 'Minneapolis' was the third ship of the 'New Orleans' project. The ship was laid down on June 27, 1931, and commissioned on May 19, 1934.
The cruiser participated in many battles of World War II in the Pacific theatre of operations, for which she received 17 battle stars. On December 7, 1941, during the Japanese air raid on Pearl Harbour, the Minneapolis was 20 miles offshore on a firing practice and escaped bombing.
In 1947, the cruiser was put into reserve, and in 1959 she was finally withdrawn from service.
